For long runs of flyers, brochures and multi-page magazine and catalogue work, web-offset print is the ideal process

It combines high speed printing with the colour quality of litho... just look at any 'glossy' magazine in your newsagents.

The major difference between the two processes is paper delivery: litho is sheet fed, while web uses a continuous roll of paper fed through the press, usually between 280 and 1,420 mm wide and up to 150 gsm in weight; pages are separated and cut to size after they have been printed.

You don't have to be a mega-publisher to use web-offset. Print runs as low as 25,000 for a 32 page publication are likely to be more competitively priced than litho.

Choosing the best technology

With our extensive supply chain network, we will use the printer who is right for the job – as with other print processes, web-offset technology comes in different guises.

There are two methods of web-offset printing – heatset and coldset. In the heatset process, the ink is dried rapidly by forced-air heating, while in the coldset process the ink dries more slowly by ordinary evaporation and absorption. Heatset presses can print on both coated and uncoated papers, while coldset presses are restricted to uncoated paper stock, such as newsprint.

All the main finishing processes associated with litho are available with web-offset, including gate folds, stitching / stapling and perfect binding.

And, of course, we can combine out knowledge of web-offset printing with all the usual direct marketing techniques to provide a highly cost effective and targeted marketing campaign.

It also means that we can negotiate better deals on your behalf because the printer is relieved of the problem and responsibility of supplying paper – the most expensive commodity they have to buy.
